Brief Job Description:

In accordance with HHSC Guiding Principles and universal expectations of personal responsibility, under general direction of the HHSC IT / Customer Service and Support / DSHS Regional Office Support Manager, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, performs complex work overseeing activities associated with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area network (WAN), Desktop Support and limited Voice Telecommunication systems.  Perform deskside customer support activities, including managing the technical ticket queue, managing technical projects, and working with customer issues.   Responsible for compliance with applicable policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures of DSHS, HHSC, and DIR. This position is classified as a fulltime position (40 hours a week). Work outside of regular hours may be required. Travel to other work locations may be required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

(40%) Provide front line support for local and remote personnel to obtain support for problems involving PC workstation hardware, software, and connectivity to network or telecommunications systems. Monitor service and problem ticket queue in order to assign, respond, and resolve tickets within established SLA timelines.  Working closely with other with team members, perform PC desktop support, troubleshoot and repair hardware and software, making appropriate documentation within the assigned ticketing system, and other technical issues in a timely manner and according to Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards. Perform account services for customer, including creation and modificaiton of accounts, as well as establishment of rights and privileges according to standards.

(35%) Participate in and assist technical project teams. Monitor progress and schedules, ensuring key timelines and project milestones are met on established deadlines.  Monitor projects to conduct quality assurance checks and ensure project deliverables are aligned with project scope.  Interacts with project staff and other department offices to ensure proper control and timely resolution of tasks and actions impacting assigned projects.  Examples of projects include, but are not limited to installation or maintenance services for desktop/mobile workstations, Local Area network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) equipment and services, software applications, as well as coordination and monitoring of vendor activities.

(20%) Provides user support and training in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities.  Serves as contact for remote network locations to obtain clarification on problems and resolutions.  Educate users on new or less frequently used features of existing products. Serve as resource for customers, in groups or individually, on use of IT systems as well as HHSC computer usage policies as needed.

(5%) Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for public health needs.  Those obligations include events related to disease outbreaks, biological, environmental, weather, and other emergencies. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.    

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of network facilities and data processing techniques, of personal computer hardware and software, network operating systems and security software, and of performance monitoring and capacity management tools.

Knowledge of and ability to utilize Active Directory tools and structure.

Knowledge of SCCM (System Center Configuraiton Manager)

Skill in verbal and written communication, troubleshooting and repairing IT related hardware and software, and in translating technical and industry terms into non-technical language for training and orientation.

Ability to recognize, analyze, and resolve network, worksation, and telecommuncaiton problems.

Ability to train others, and oversee the work of others.

Ability to work in a team environment, as well as to recognize technical limitations and seek competent assistance when needed. 

Ability to move computer / telecommunications equipment.

Ability to work more than 8-5, M-F.

Ability to travel to other work locations as required.

Initial Screening Critera:

Experience working with Local Area Networks as well as providing deskside computer support including hardware, software, and peripherals.  Preference for additional support experience with Wide Area Networks and Active Directory tools. Experience with network services. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, data processing, management information systems, or a related field is generally preferred. Education and work experience can be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.  Must be able to travel and work hours outside normal business hours.
