The Risk Management Specialist Il-Employee Injury Services compiles and reports data pertaining to work-related employee injuries and illnesses, Workers Compensation costs, and administers the facility's Return to Work Program. Work involves reviewing, evaluating, inspecting, and developing a facility program in liability, and/or risk exposure related to facility workforce.
Works under moderate supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Completion of work requires occasionally originating new methods and/or techniques and decisions are varied but based on well-defined guidelines. Supervised by the Director of Risk Management.
Essential Job Function (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Provides case management for employees who are in a Worker's Compensation claimant status. Communicates and maintains documentation of contracts with claimants, supervisors, unit, department head, SORM adjuster, and medical provider as determined by the circumstances of each Worker's Compensation claim.
Investigates reports of work-related employee injuries and illnesses.
Compiles, reports and interprets data pertaining to work related employee injuries and illnesses.
Compiles and reports data pertaining to workers’ Compensation claims cost. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports containing analyses and graphic illustrations of Worker's Compensation claims costs.
Interprets data and identifies trends pertaining to Worker's Compensation claims costs to include cost of accident, damages, and claim loss.
Provides case management for employees who are Facility’s Return to Work Program claimants.
Chairs the Facility Employee Injury Prevention Committee and the Facility Accident Review Board.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of Worker's Compensation Law and the Americans with Disabilities Act Abilities: (ADA); Agency programs, policies, and procedures; human resources policies.
Skill in word processing and data entry.
Skill in interview and investigative strategies and techniques.
Ability to write and interpret policy and procedure; make oral and written presentations; coordinate, plan, problem solve and analyze; and work with all levels of staff and medical providers.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date, is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business management, risk management, occupational safety management, insurance or related field preferred.
Two (2) years of full-time experience in business management, human resources
services, safety or risk management or related field.

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
