The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The Receptionist responds to all calls coming into the switchboard console and assists visitors of the State Supported Living Center. Usually, the first employee to meet and/or greet consumers or visitors of the State Supported Living Center.  Performs routine work operating a telephone switchboard or console and performing receptionist duties. Work involves placing, answering, and transferring local and long-distance calls, receiving visitors, and providing general information. Ability to work harmoniously with individuals, their families, and staff.  Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work extended hours until adequately relieved by on-coming switchboard employee; may be required to come in early from time to time to provide adequate switchboard coverage; may have to work alone; and fulfill and perform other job duties as assigned.

 

Hours:  8:00am-5:00pm with a one hour lunch break; May need to work some overtime, Shelton Holidays and Regular Holidays. Hours may vary based on the needs of the facility.

 

Essential Job Function (EJFs):

 

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Places, answers, and transfers local and long-distance calls in an efficient manner. 

 

Provides relief for other operators for coverage during illness, vacation and other emergency situations

 

Responds to emergency calls on and off campus

 

Greets visitors, and answers questions in a pleasant and professional manner

 

Monitors fire alarm system and reports trouble

 

Maintains records

 

Coping of documents

 

Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge of the operation of a telephone console/switchboard; of office procedures; administrative, clerical, and data entry procedures and systems.

 

Skill in using a personal computer and office equipment and in operating a multi-line switchboard console.

 

Ability to transfer incoming calls to appropriate personnel, to communicate effectively, to greet and direct visitors; and to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

 

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

N/A

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.

 

Some work experience as a switchboard or console operator or as a receptionist.

 

Must have experience in clerical work or data entry.

 

Some knowledge of Microsoft Programs, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.

 

Working knowledge of the CISCO Telephone System is preferred.

 

Additional Information:

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

 

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
