The Electrical Supervisor supervises and performs highly advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. This position directly supervises and trains full time equivalents that are responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits at the facility. Work involves coordinating the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, component of machinery, and equipment. Assigns tasks and checks work in progress and inspects and reviews completed work. Responsible for ordering electrical parts, interviewing prospective employees, and evaluating employees in the Electrical Department. Stands emergency maintenance call as needed. Works under minimal supervision of the Assistant Plant Maintenance Manager and Plant Maintenance Manager.

 

Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

 

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

 

Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Supervises, coordinates, and assists in the inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits. Ensures new equipment, circuits, and mechanical equipment is installed according to Plant Manager's instructions, National Electrical Code, National Fire Code, and Life Safety Code.

 

Supervises, coordinates, and assists in performing preventative maintenance (PM), breakdown repairs, routine maintenance, and planned maintenance of all electrical equipment. Inspects same for quality, quantity, and adherence to specifications (standards) to ensure reliability of equipment operation and safety to clients and staff.

 

Supervises, coordinates, and assists in the repair, adjusting and performing PM’s of fire alarm systems and emergency electrical power generators to ensure a safe environment for clients and staff.

 

Supervises and assigns tasks to subordinates such as PM, repair work, and installations to ensure jobs are assigned proper priority. Checks work in progress daily and inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with codes. Tracks the usage of time and materials utilized by project using the Computer Aided Facility Management Program (CAFM).

 

Orders materials to maintain adequate bench stock to satisfy requests and prevent excessive down time of equipment. Maintains current knowledge of HHSC Procurement and Contracting policies and procedures to track expenditures against purchase orders and contracts.

 

Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and service to plant equipment to provide accurate maintenance data.

 

Evaluates and counsels team members on expectations under guidance of PPP system for increased productivity and improved employee development.

 

Accounts for personal tool inventory by following departmental procedures to ensure safety of patients and employees. Trains and ensures the Electrical Department follows departmental standards on tool accountability.

 

Instructs on-the-job training to personnel in the Electrical Department of the Maintenance Department to insure proper training maintenance and safety.

 

Assists the Plant Manager with interviews of prospective employees for the Electrical Department of maintenance to help select those most qualified.

 

Stands emergency maintenance call as needed according to maintenance procedures to provide needed services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, building maintenance, repairs, electrical code, and fire and safety regulations

 

Skill in the use of the following tools and equipment: Pipe threader, scissor lift, boom lift, multi meter, oscilloscope, EMT conduit hand benders

 

Ability to work from drawings, schematics, and blueprints.

 

Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

 

Ability to train and/or supervise others.

Proficient knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM)

 

Ability to perform electrical repair work on low and medium voltage electrical systems and equipment.

 

Ability to calculate material and labor requirements to complete assigned work tasks.

 

Ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently.

 

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

 

Current Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations Journeyman Electrician License, or the ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of employment.

 

Must possess valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent, supplemented by vocational training in a designated trade, is generally preferred; experience and education may be substituted for one another.

 

At least five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in work Experience supervising

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.

 

Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital operating procedures related to immunizations is required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are considered to be at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. All these diseases are vaccine preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with individuals. In the event you choose to not be immunized for the influenza virus, you may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.
