This Laundry Technician II position performs routine manual and semi-skilled work for an institutional laundry providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Activities include sorting, classifying, weighing, and recording of weights, flatwork ironing, folding, preparing linen for delivery and routine cleaning of work areas. Work involves both light and heavy physical labor. This position normally works from 05:00am-03:00pm, Monday-Thursday. Occasional work on weekends, holidays, and hours other than those regularly scheduled may be required. The Laundry Technician II will work under the close supervision of the Laundry Operations Manager with minimal latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques. Decisions are simple and based on well-defined guidelines. All tasks will be performed within established time frames. This position may also perform other related custodial duties as classified under the STATE OF TEXAS Classification Office as needed. Participation in the COOP and other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Sorts soiled linen by proper classification into carts. 25%
Operation of the sheet ironer, sheet stacker, sheet folder, and manual folding. 25%
Operates Towel Folder and manually folds towels. 25%
Maintains a clean and safe environment to meet infection control and safety standards. 15%
Attends and participates in all mandatory trainings to meet HHSC/RSSLC/Laundry Requirements. 5%
Assisting with deliveries to homes. 5%
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of laundering techniques and procedures; of the tools, and equipment used; and of proper lifting techniques. Skill in the operation of washers, extractors, tumblers, presses, irons, and flat work ironers; and in the use of soaps, bleaches, washing solutions and other chemicals. Ability to sort and record weights of laundry items; ability to perform routine job functions on daily basis; ability to work closely with others; ability to effectively communicate with others; and ability to read and write English. Flexibility to work in other areas within Support Services as needed.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Valid DL
Initial Screening Criteria:
Experience in laundry operations work preferred but not required.
One of the following is required:
• Paid or unpaid stocking or warehouse experience.
• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
• Some work experience.
Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE).
Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
