The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Under the supervision of the Retail Manager the Assistant Retail Manager is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the general operation of the business and development of products made by client workers. The Assistant Retail Manager will assist with the general operations on and off campus. The Assistant Retail Manager will order supplies, as well as pricing and inventorying of stock. Work involves providing rehabilitative services for client workers with developmental disabilities. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. The Assistant Retail Manager is responsible for assisting supervising client workers, and their production. The Assistant Retail Manager will assist with marketing handcrafted items made by client workers in the community and interfacing with community organizations, businesses and entities to market products made. The Assistant Retail Manager will accurately operate the cash register and follow facility policy for daily deposits. The Assistant Retail Manager will assist in checking the quality of all items that are made and ensure they are of marketable quality.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- Provide training and active treatment following training programs and other appropriate training methods to teach vocational skills as it relates to the business, provide on-going training and instruction and to promote personal growth (20%).
- Oversee the production either on or off campus and provides consistent quality control on production in order to ensure high quality product (15%).
- Will be responsible with expanding the business and market venues for products made. Integrate the business into the community and interfacing with the community, while effectively maintaining and running a business (40%).
- Responsible for attending craft shows and marketing opportunities in the community and displaying/ selling wares (5%).
- Purchase and stock necessary supplies for craft items in sufficient quantities to ensure goods are available for customers, establish prices to provide sufficient gross margin to cover expenses and replenish inventory (5%).
- Facilitates job training of client workers and coordinates training within the Active Treatment department (5%).
- Maintains records in file and on the computer in order to retrieve information regarding supplies, orders, sales and inventory as well as accurately operating the cash register and making daily deposits (5%).
- Follows all general safety practices established by the facility procedures in order to promote a safe, secure, clean and orderly work environment. Will enhance knowledge base by attending all required/requested in-service training to better serve the needs of the individuals (5%)
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Extensive knowledge of laundering techniques and procedures; of soap, bleach, sour, softener, washing solutions and application methods; and of fabric and colored material reactions to laundry chemicals.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of laundry machinery and equipment; and in the use of soaps, bleaches, sours and softeners and washing solutions.
Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others; to maintain records, and to prepare concise reports. Good customer service skills.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Requires a valid driver's license.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Must have 1 year of supervisory experience.
Stable work history, with favorable paid work references; at least seven (7) consecutive months of continuous employment or more in the previous year.
Valid Texas Driver’s license.
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
Must have experience in managing a business in retail.
Marketing experience preferred.
Experience in therapeutic methods and techniques in the specialization of rehabilitation.
Willing to work weekends and holidays.
Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE).

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
