The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The Director of Recreational Services works a variable schedule as needed to include but not limited to overtime, holidays and weekends. Conducts oversight and supervision of daily planning, scheduling, and the execution of activities for the individuals that the recreation staff are assigned to execute. This includes the responsibility in planning, coordinating, scheduling, participating in and supervising all on and off campus events and activities. The Director of Recreational Services is required to assist in maintaining all recreation sites on campus. Order and maintain all necessary equipment. Involve Unit and Recreation staff in conducting scheduled recreation activities. Provide equipment and materials necessary to conduct evening and weekend activities. Monitor and maintain supplies and ensure activity supplies are available and replaced when needed. Ensures that monthly calendars and event flyers are located on the units and surrounding campus. Required to develop, maintain, and submit reports in a timely manner, adhere to all budgetary and purchase card requirements and follow all policys and procedures. Supervises the recreation staff, conducts and updates training to recreation and other staff as needed. Conducts PPP reviews for recreation staff. Conducts staff meetings and performs all other job duties as assigned also including but are not limited to actively participating and or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. 

 

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

 

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

1.Provides ongoing training as needed to unit staff and recreation staff on trips, activities, events and policy and procedures as needed (10%)

2. Provides TX Special Olympics training and coaching for individuals in team sports. (10%)

3. Purchases, monitors, and stores equipment and materials necessary to effectively conduct activities. (5%)

4. Maintains adherence to the recreation budgetary and purchase card policies and procedures. (5%)

5. Assist with keeping all recreation areas in compliance with Life Safety Standards by making sure all equipment and supplies are kept and stored within the policy and procedures (10%)

6. Imitates and develops trip memos for off campus trips; by meeting with the individuals and the IDT members to safely schedule and effectively execute various off-campus trips. (10%)

7. Maintains/Updates trip and attendance data base and generates reports for the IDT (10%)

8. Conducts performance evaluations and PPP disciplinary action within the policy and procedure guidelines (5%)

9. Supervises activities and events on campus as assigned (10%)

10. Acts as Trip supervisor or assigns other recreation staff as designee to cover all scheduled recreation trips and events off campus as needed (10%)

11. Assists with and works closely with organizations that use the DSSLC facilities upon approval from Facility Director. (5%)

12. Acts as a driver when needed for trips (5%)

13. Other duties as assigned, include but not limited to actively participating and or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and or recovery or continuity of operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern, assignment participation, and or location. (5%)

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

 

• Possess a Valid and Current Texas Driver’s License

• Clear Driving Record with the TX Dept. of Public Safety

• Must be Able to be Certified to drive a State Vehicle

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in recreation therapy or human services professional (includes but is not limited to degrees in sociology, education, special education, rehabilitation, counseling, or psychology) preferred.

• Two years of experience in job related habilitation activities.

• At least six months experience assisting in therapeutic activities.

• Experience with working with person’s possessing challenging behaviors such as self-injurious, non- compliance, and aggression.

• Experience supervising others

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
