Brief Job Description
The Nurse II (NF/ALF/DAHS/PPECC) serves as a key clinical trainer and consultant within Long-term Care Regulation, providing specialized support for long-term care (LTC) staff and stakeholders throughout Texas. This position involves creating and delivering training on best practices and state regulations, maintaining and updating curriculum, and representing LTCR in various committees and workgroups. Statewide overnight travel (up to 45%) is required to conduct on-site training, while telework capabilities allow for a flexible work environment.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
- Conduct Assigned Joint Training (50%) - Coordinates with the Training Manager to deliver in-person (up to 45% overnight travel) and virtual training programs related to LTCR programs. Engages with providers and other external stakeholders to address questions, clarify expectations, and provide ongoing educational support.
- Curriculum Development and Maintenance (30%) - Designs, develops, and updates training materials (e.g., presentations, handouts, guides) to remain current with changes in regulations and LTC industry standards. This includes new course initiatives and revisions of currently taught courses. Evaluates existing training curricula, identifies gaps, and recommends revisions or new activities to improve effectiveness. Serves as a consultant and curriculum specialist for LTCR-Joint Training, advising on best practices for adult learning, delivery modes, and emerging technologies/processes.
- Serves as a nursing consultant and clinical specialist for Education Services & Regulatory Services (15%) - Provides expert guidance and clinical to LTCR, addressing complex clinical questions and scenarios. Advises on nursing best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements affecting LTCR training topics. Represents the department on workgroups and committees, offering subject matter expertise related to training initiatives and regulatory updates.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Adult education principles and practices
- Current nursing practices in long-term care settings
- Long-term care regulation survey process
Skill in:
- Written and oral communication
- Use of applicable computer software to include LTCR applications and LMS platforms
- Identifying problems, evaluating alternatives, and implementing solutions
Ability to:
- Understand and manage group dynamics, and make decisions quickly and effectively
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Work independently and as part of a team
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN)- Current Texas Licensure
Initial Screening Criteria:
- Experience delivering presentations and facilitating group training sessions, required
- Experience with regulatory long-term care surveys, preferred.
Additional Information:
Position available statewide; candidate may reside anywhere within Texas. Corpus Christi or San Antonio preferred for operational convenience.
