Brief Job Description:
Performs computer systems analysis work as a Microsoft Windows/Red Hat Linux Administrator for the State of Texas HHSC TIERS operational infrastructure department and reports to the Manager of TIERS Data Center & Operations. Work involves coordinating the planning and analysis of Windows/Linux operating systems administration, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing system infrastructures. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Coordinates the planning, architecture and engineering of the TIERS systems infrastructure. This includes the implementation and configurations of hardware and software components to meet the needs of the organization and monitors the performance of these systems. Collaboration with TIERS Operations and Application Teams to ensure infrastructures are effectively deployed to support the TIERS System. (25%)
- Provides Windows Server 2016+ and Linux 8+ system administration for servers in a high-availability environment. Provides network and storage administration related to Windows and Linux platforms. Provides configuration and upgrade support for a wide variety of applications and services on these servers, including but not limited to LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), Windows Active Directory, DNS, Microsoft SQL (Structured Query Language) Server, and Hypervisor experience with Hyper-V and VMware, printer services, and backup services. (25%)
- Provides server and application support on a 24X7 on-call basis and on a rotating schedule; provides support to applications team in installation, configuration and troubleshooting of various applications in TIERS. (20%)
- Plans and coordinates server maintenance activities including security patching and other activities related to the TIERS Security Program. (10%)
- Administers security controls and hardening within TIERS; implements security control plan of actions, corrective actions, implementation of security controls, remediations. Responds to system and security audits and association evidence controls are implemented. Assists agency in maintaining suite of security tools. (10%)
- Analyzes and troubleshoots Windows and Linux system problems and provides consultation on complex projects. (5%)
- Opens and responds to changes and work requests from the TIERS Operations ticketing system. (5%)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- High level knowledge and experience of network facilities and data processing techniques, of computer hardware and software, of network operating system and security software, and of performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
- Skilled with Hypervisors such as Hyper-V and VMware.
- Skilled with Dell VxRail system, network administration, Microsoft SQL Server, IT Governance, and Security/Privacy policies and tools.
- Knowledge supporting the following systems: Globalscape SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol), IBM WebSphere, Spectrum, Adobe Experience Manager and Kofax.
- Ability to direct and organize work activities.
- Ability to identify problems/issues, analyze and evaluate alternatives and recommend and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to prepare concise written reports appropriate to the audience.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. - Ability to develop automation using Ansible or similar tools.
- Ability to provide consultation on complex projects.
- Skilled with Remedy and/or Service Now.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
ITIL Foundation Certification preferred
Windows and Linux server certifications are preferred
AWS cloud certification is preferred
Initial Screening Criteria:
Experience supporting Windows and Lunix operating systems.
Additional Information:
This role offers a hybrid schedule: 3 days telework and 2 days in-office per week. Note that this arrangement is subject to change.
