Brief Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our team and play a key role in supporting and enhancing our data and development operations. This cross-functional role blends system administration, cloud platform management, and light development responsibilities to ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of our enterprise data platforms and development environments.
You’ll administer and optimize our SAS Viya environment, support user needs, manage resources within our Azure cloud infrastructure, and help maintain our Informatica Cloud platform. This role also involves occasional contributions to backend and frontend development efforts, as well as managing workflows and documentation across Jira and GitHub Enterprise.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, collaborative technologist with strong cloud data platform experience, a solid grasp of agile development processes, and a willingness to step into multiple technical areas to get the job done.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
- (15%) Administer Informatica and SAS Viya: Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as user and role management, warehouse monitoring, and access control.
- (15%) ETL Development: Assist in schema design, stored procedures, and performance optimization within ETL (Snowflake OpenFlow, Informatica, SAS Viya)
- (15%) User Support: Provide technical assistance to internal users of Snowflake, helping troubleshoot issues and improve usage.
- (10%) Agile Team Participation: Collaborate within an agile team environment of administrators; attend and contribute to sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives
- (10%) Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for Snowflake processes, standards, and user guides.
- (5%) Jira Tracking: Log all work, tasks, and issues in Jira, maintaining up-to-date and detailed records.
- (5%) Python Development: Write and maintain lightweight Python scripts to support automation, data processing, or tooling needs.
- (5%) GitHub Enterprise Administration: Manage organization settings, access controls, repositories, and workflows within GitHub Enterprise.
- (5%) After-Hours Administration: Perform occasional after-hours tasks (e.g., updates, patches, emergency fixes).
- (5%) Web App Development Backup: Act as a backup to the web application developer, working with Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS on internal tools or applications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge of Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Knowledge of frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) or backend frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
- 2+ years of Working knowledge of Python for scripting or automation.
- Skilled at CI/CD pipelines and version control practices.
- 5+ years of strong SQL skills and understanding of data warehousing best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable collaborating across teams and with stakeholders.
- Ability to develop or support internal developer tools or portals.
- 2+ years of Java, JavaScript, HTML, and/or CSS; with ability to contribute to web app development when needed.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Agile certification is preferred.
Informatica or ETL certification or in progress is preferred.
Initial Screening Criteria:
- 2+ years prior experience with a health sector agency or company.
- Hands-on admin experience with ETL administration and GitHub.
- Hands-on experience leading Agile ceremonies and with Jira.
- Developer team experience in an advanced analytics cloud-based platform.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of experience in ETL administration, Informatica and SAS Viya preferred.
- 2+ years of Hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise administration.
- 5+ years of Experience in agile development teams and proficiency with Jira.
- Willingness to handle off-hours tasks occasionally as required.
- Experience in data engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles.
- experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with data governance, security, or compliance practices in the cloud.
Additional Information:
Any employment offer is contingent upon available budgeted funds. The offered salary will be determined in accordance with budgetary limits and the requirements of HHSC Human Resources Manual.

- This is a hybrid position based in Austin with at least three (3) days in the office required. Selected candidate must be willing to commute to the office on the required days.
