We are looking for a proactive and adaptable Data Platform & Development Support Engineer to support and enhance our data and development operations. This cross-functional role involves administering our Snowflake environment, supporting users, managing GitHub Enterprise, and occasionally contributing to both backend and frontend development. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in cloud data tools, is comfortable in an agile environment, and is willing to step into multiple technical areas as needed.

 

This hybrid role offers a collaborative and flexible work environment, the opportunity to work with modern cloud data and development technologies, and support for ongoing training and certifications.

 

Must be willing to work onsite at an Austin, TX HHS office three (3), or more, days per week

 

 

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

 

  • Administer Snowflake: Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as user and role management, warehouse monitoring, and access control. 15%
  • Snowflake Development: Assist in schema design, stored procedures, and performance optimization within Snowflake. 15%
  • User Support: Provide technical assistance to internal users of Snowflake, helping troubleshoot issues and improve usage. 15%
  • Agile Team Participation: Collaborate within an agile team environment of administrators; attend and contribute to sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives. 10%
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for Snowflake processes, standards, and user guides. 10%
  • Python Development: Write and maintain lightweight Python scripts to support automation, data processing, or tooling needs. 5%
  • GitHub Enterprise Administration: Manage organization settings, access controls, repositories, and workflows within GitHub Enterprise. 5%
  • After-Hours Administration: Perform occasional after-hours tasks (e.g., updates, patches, emergency fixes). 5%
  • Web App Development Backup: Act as a backup to the web application developer, working with Java, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS on internal tools or applications. 5%

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Skilled at CI/CD pipelines and version control practices.
  • Skilled at Snowflake administration or related data platforms with 2+ years of hands-on work experience.
  • Skilled with GitHub Enterprise administration with 2+ years of hands-on work experience.
  • Skilled in agile development teams and proficiency with Jira with 5+ years of demonstrated work experience in this area.
  • Skilled with SQL and 5+ years of work experience with data warehousing best practices.
  • Skilled at problem-solving, documentation, and communication.
  • Knowledge of Python with 2+ years of work experience with scripting or automation.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Knowledge of frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) or backend frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
  • Ability to contribute to web app development when needed using Java, JavaScript, HTML, and/or CSS, with 2+ years of work experience with these technologies.
  • Ability to use internal developer tools or portals.
  • Ability to handle off-hours tasks occasionally as required.

 

 

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

 

  • Agile certification is preferred.
  • Snowflake Core certification, or certification in progress, is preferred with commitment to obtain the certification within one month of offer.

 

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

  • 5+ years prior experience with a health sector agency or company is required.
  • 2+ years Hands-on admin experience with Snowflake or related database and GitHub is required.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience leading Agile ceremonies and with Jira is required.
  • 2+ years of developer team experience in an advanced analytics, cloud-based platform is required.
