Brief Job Description:
The Health and Specialty Care System (HSCS) serves 23 facilities in Texas with over 18,000 employees who provide care to individuals with mental illness and intellectual disabilities. HSCS Competency, Training, and Development (CTD) is part of the Staff Support Services (SSS) team in the Business Operations Unit.
The HSCS CTD team supports facility CTD Departments by providing in-person, virtual, and hybrid training content as requested; creating and maintaining instructor-led and computer-based training and curriculum; responding to inquiries; providing guidance based on state mandates and HHS/HSCS policies and procedures; keeping accurate and up-to-date materials and records; managing and reporting data; certifying facility instructors; and facilitating division-wide training programs.
As part of the HSCS CTD team, the Behavior Risk Management Programs (BRMP) Training Coordinator will provide exceptional customer service to HSCS facilities while collaborating with CTD team members, master trainers, and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to facilitate and support behavior management training programs. This role may also include designing additional trainings unrelated to BRMP for facility staff. The individual will coordinate and update behavior management training programs, identify training needs, and lead efforts to implement new division-wide positive behavior initiatives. Responsibilities also include tracking training certifications, scheduling training and workgroup meetings, and evaluating training effectiveness. The ideal candidate has excellent time management and communication skills, and values innovation, creativity, and continuous process improvement.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Coordinates division-wide BRMP training and logistics with all stakeholders. Plans training schedules, maintains training records, creates reports on training outcomes, responds to consultation requests, and identifies process improvement opportunities. 35%
Plans, designs, and develops engaging, interactive, and effective instructor-led training content and revises existing curricula and behavior risk management programs to meet identified objectives while incorporating adult learning principles, current instructional design techniques, and behavior management best practice. 25%
Collaborates with Master Trainers and faculty, subject matter experts, and team members to effectively respond to consultation requests and to formulate learning objectives, assess and evaluate training, and draft or revise instructional content based on collaborative feedback. 20%
Delivers high-quality instructor-led training sessions in person, virtually, or in a hybrid environment for behavior risk management programs designed for state hospitals, Safe Use of Restraint (SUR®), and Ukeru® to equip staff with protection and intervention strategies, including the ability to de-escalate aggressive behaviors. 15%
Stays up to date on all laws, rules, policies, and procedures related to training and industry best practices. 5%
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
Behavior risk management strategies and training methodologies.
Adult learning principles and instructional design techniques.
Industry best practices in behavior risk management and de-escalation techniques.
TIPS, Safe Use of Restraint (SUR®), Ukeru®, or similar intervention strategies.
Skill in:
Training development and facilitation, including designing, delivering, and evaluating instructor-led training in various formats (in-person, virtual, hybrid).
Written and oral communication and collaboration.
Project and time management.
Organization and attention to detail.
Formulating learning objectives and creating engaging curriculum and training materials with content tailored to diverse audiences and learning styles.
Ability to:
Provide excellent customer service to HSCS leadership and facility staff.
Coordinate large-scale training programs while ensuring smooth logistics.
Assess training needs and adjust curricula to meet evolving objectives.
De-escalate aggressive behaviors and instruct others in crisis prevention techniques.
Respond to consultation requests and provide guidance on behavior management programs.
Stay updated on policies and industry advancements to enhance training quality.
Manage multiple training projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adhere to project timelines.
Effectively work both independently and collaboratively as a member of the Competency Training and Development team.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
Certification(s) in Behavior Risk Management program(s) preferred.
Initial Screening Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in behavior management, instructional design, or related field preferred.
At least 2 years of recent experience in behavior risk management.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Information:
Travel up to 30% may be required to deliver instructor-led training sessions and provide facility support and behavior management training program oversight.
This position is currently working a hybrid telework schedule that reports on-site in Austin. Telework schedules are subject to change based on agency policy or operational needs.
