Brief Job Description:
Accountant III- In your role as an Accountant III on the Accounting Operations Support and Oversight team, you’ll become a specialist on the Texas Identification Number System (TINs)team. Providing technical and functional support to projects/initiatives using comprehensive knowledge of assigned area. Develops, evaluates, and presents creative solutions to unit business and accounting needs and issues. Assists in the six-month review of all vendor information to ensure accurate submission of Internal Revenue Service 1099 tax forms for all vendors and other customers that received non-salary related monies from the agency. This position is responsible for analyzing daily review of Detailed Accounting Financial Reports (DAFR) to ensure immediate corrections are made to TINS errors due to the daily interfaces of provider payments. This position is responsible for the uploading of payment and vendor information into several unit Access databases. This position is responsible for the setup of TINs for vendors, providers and employees according to the rules and regulations established by the State Legislature, Secretary of State, Comptroller and Internal Revenue Service. Assists with documenting business processes designs and creates reports from a variety of data sources using a variety of automation tools.

Communicates on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints. Provides complex technical assistance to others regarding automated applications and systems. Provides instruction, guidance, or training to staff. (30%)
Assist in analysis of business processes to implement more effective and efficient operations. (10%)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Working knowledge and effective use of all relevant policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and systems to effectively maintain data and information.
2. Skill in the use of automated accounting systems.
3. Ability to review and audit the work of others to interpret and apply accounting theory, business processes and Comptroller policies and to analyze, consolidate and interpret accounting data.
4. Ability to efficiently process accounting information.
5. Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing.
6. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications

Initial Screening Criteria:
1. Excellent written communications as observed by detail and completeness of information provided on the state application.
2. Experience with accounting principles and procedures; preference for governmental accounting experience.
3. Experience with accounting software.
4. Experience with Microsoft office applications.
5. Experience in basic accounting functions through education or other positions.
