Brief Job Description:
This position provides training, consultation, and technical assistance for the Continuing Education (CE) Program at the Texas Department of State Health Services. This position requires attention to detail, planning, and evaluation skills.
The Continuing Education Program is an accredited provider of continuing education credits for multiple health and medical disciplines (i.e., physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, certified health education specialists, certified public health professionals, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and registered sanitarians). This position collaborates with the Texas Medical Association (TMA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and other accreditation/approval bodies to maintain continuing education requirements.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
EJF 1: (35%) Implements Continuing Education Accreditation Standards
Analyzes, interprets, applies, and enforces nationally recognized accreditation standards in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education programs. Ensures CE accredited activities meet the standards required by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and American Nursing Credential Center.
EJF 3:(25%) Provides Consultation
Provides consultation to internal and external entities in providing CE accredited professional development activities. Provides interpretation of literature, statutes, rules, and policies to licensed medical and other health professionals in relation to providing CE supported professional development activities. Represents DSHS at business meetings, conferences, seminars, and committee meetings. Prepares and presents informal and formal oral presentations and written correspondence to internal and external partners.
EJF 2: (25%) Provides Administrative and Quality Assurance Support
Provides administrative support to the continuing education program. Ensures that CE events are thoroughly documented, and data maintained. Performs quality control checks on data from CE reporting. Investigates and reconciles any discrepancies in post event data. Conducts both desktop and field surveys of CE events to determine compliance with standards, policies, and procedures. Produces accurate and timely reports. Ensures that data are managed to generate accurate and timely reports including learner transcripts, number and types of CE contact hours awarded, number and types of CE recipients, and number and types of live and enduring CE events provided.
EJF 4:(10%) Serves as a Member of DSHS Grand Rounds
The DSHS Grand Rounds is designed to expand health professionals understanding of the science and evidence-based practice of population health. Functions of the team include assessing learner needs; working with DSHS and HHSC executives to identify emerging issues; program planning; marketing; learner registration; webinar logistics; speaker support; program evaluation; and general troubleshooting.
EJF5: (5%) Other duties as assigned, include but are not limited to actively participating and serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and recovery or Continuity of Operations activation. Participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and or location.
