Job Description: 

This position is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations for a blended unit of Master Conservatorship and Master Family Based Safety Services caseworkers who are housed throughout the state and who are routinely deployed statewide to assist regional programs in providing child protective services.  Candidates selected for this position with no previous FBSS Experience may be asked to complete FBSS Specialty Training with the expectation of supervising deployed Master FBSS staff if the need arises.  This position may also receive assignments to directly supervise regional caseworkers in counties that have been unable to fill CVS/FBSS Supervisor positions. 

The position routinely interacts with DFPS regional staff and contract providers across the state, parents, children, caregivers, CASA programs, District and County Attorneys, Judges, community stakeholders and other partner agencies.

The position will travel statewide 75% of the month or more.
 

Essential Job Functions:   

  • Coordinates and oversees simultaneous deployments assigned to the unit
  • Assists in casework decisions regarding the removal and placement of children, and works with county and district attorneys on legal measures for child protective services cases.
  • Provides regular consultation to staff to ensure services are in place to achieve child safety, permanency and well-being and to address other case related issues as they arise
  • Review and approve IMPACT documentation and court reports
  • Perform administrative duties including approving time/leave/travel and hiring unit staff as needed
  • Provide opportunities for individual staff development and team building through agency sponsored trainings, field visits with staff, monthly conferences, team meetings and performance evaluations
  • Evaluates individual and unit performance through case readings, data warehouse reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure compliance with policy, procedures, and service control requirements.
  • Knowledgeable of and able to interpret current CPS program policy and procedures to DFPS staff, courts, CASA, agency partners and community stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships between CPS staff, parents, children, youth, caregivers, the general public, legal, medical, educational, and other community stakeholders and partners
  • Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations and achieve objectives of the Master CVS/FBSS program.
  • Promotes, monitors, and ensures that respect is demonstrated for cultural diversity.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

Initial Screening Criteria:

Child Protective Services Supervisor I: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus 3 years of full-time experience in Child Protective Services* or child placement services** in a public social services agency OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I with the Department of Family and Protective Services.

 

Child Protective Services Supervisor II: Completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and completion of the Child Protective Services Supervisor Certification OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II in Family and Protective Services OR Currently employed in a Family and Protective Services management position in the Child Protective Services program at a level above Child Protective Services Supervisor AND prior experience as Child Protective Services Supervisor in Family and Protective Services OR previously employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II.

 *Child Protective Services is professional social work where primary duties are providing social casework services to abused, neglected, or exploited children and their families; or in recruiting, studying, and certifying foster and adoptive homes.

 **A Child placement service is the decision-making process around placing and monitoring children in licensed 24-hour childcare facilities and in adoptive placement in compliance with state and federal regulations.

 

Additional Information:

  • Three supervisor positions will be filled from this requisition to form three new units in which all workers will be trained in both CVS and FBSS and may be utilized to assist regions in either stage of service.
  • This position may be housed in any regional office where office space is available.
