L&D CPS/CPI Training Academy Manager
Brief Job Description:
Oversees the daily operations of the Child Protective Services (CPS), Child Protective Investigations (CPI) and other DFPS programs Training Academy for assigned DFPS regions. Work requires close coordination and collaboration with regional management and staff to provide training to CPS/CPI/DFPS employees. Works with state and regional leadership to achieve the goals of the agency. Supervises L&D Training Specialists and Academy Manager Assistants. Performs advanced (senior level) training work including planning, designing, organizing, scheduling, conducting, analyzing and evaluating training programs; analyzing training needs; oversees the development of teaching methods and training materials; ensuring the collection and reporting of training data; coordinating and/or conducting training sessions; and promoting the use of training services, methods, and techniques. Plans, assigns, schedules and supervises the work of others, including development of teaching methods, outlines, training aids, and text materials. Works under general direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plans and directs training and education programs, services and activities, such as CPS Professional Development, Continuous Learning courses, Certification, Legislative mandated and any additional DFPS/CPS/CPI Program related training.
- Plans develops, reviews revises, and implements training programs, policies and procedures related to new employee development programs and ongoing development programs.
- Oversees the development of teaching methods and outlines, training aids and text materials (for statewide or regionally requested trainings).
- Designs, develops and/or evaluates training in a classroom, through distance learning, or in an e-learning environment.
- Designs, develops and/or implements methods for the assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of training, including attainment of learning objectives.
- Involved in the development of training contract specifications, and monitor bid awards and contract estimate and expenditures.
- Works with local and state experts to formulate and develop plans, procedures, and programs to meet specific training needs, including both long- and short-term goals.
- Manages workflow to ensure timeliness, quality and consistency of training programs, which includes advising staff in resolving training problems. Ensures training products and services meet learner, program and division expectations.
- Supervises work of Training Specialists, Training Academy Manager Assistant.
- Evaluates data and reviews reports.
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- Facilitates workshops and meetings.
- May evaluate, recommend, or plan supplemental training programs with local, state or federal agencies or universities.

Initial Screening Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in human resources, organizational development, education, or related field.
Experience in supervising others.
Five years’ experience in Child Protective Services, Child Protective Investigations, or DFPS programs/services demonstrating increasing responsibilities preferred. A combination of training and professional experience may be substituted for five years’ experience in Child Protective Services/Investigations or DFPS program and services.
