Job Description:
This position works under the direction of the Adoption Prep Program Director. The position will manage 7 workers with 2 support staff. The position will be responsible for the daily operation of the unit. The position interacts routinely with DFPS staff, other agencies in the community, judges and the general public.
Essential Job Functions:
Plans and manages unit operations to achieve program and regional goals and objectives for service delivery by monitoring caseloads, consulting with staff on case related issues, approving leave, and holding individual conferences and unit meetings. Manages and develops staff through unit in-service training, field visits with staff, review of performance data, individual conferences, agency sponsored training, and performance appraisal. Interprets program policy and procedures to unit staff, other DFPS staff, and the public. Evaluates unit performance through case readings, computer reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure compliance with policy, procedures, and service control requirements. Develops and maintains effective working relationships between CPS staff, Harris County staff, the general public, legal, medical, educational, and other community resources. Makes casework decisions regarding the removal and placement of children and works with county attorneys on legal measures to ensure the safety of children. Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations. Promotes, monitors, and ensures that respect is demonstrated for cultural diversity. Ensures permanency planning is ongoing. Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of agency conservatorship and adoption preparation procedures and policies regarding identifying families, home studies, matching, etc. Skills in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communication. Ability to operate a personal computer and use various software packages.

Initial Screening Criteria:
CVS Supervisor I: Minimum of Three years of full-time experience in Child Protective Services and completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
CPS Supervisor II: At least one year of experience as a CPS Supervisor. Minimum of Three years of full-time experience in Child Protective Services and completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Additional Information:
This position is involved in various recruitment activities throughout the county. The supervisor will need to be flexible and available on nights and weekends to participate in various programs associated with adoption preparation. The position is located at 2525 Murworth. The position will be supervised by Christie Fleming.
Preference for adoption preparation experience.
