Brief Job Description:
Systems Analyst V / Tableau Developers - If you have great Tableau developer skills or you are a strong SQL coder, here is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Data and Decision Support (DDS) division within the Office of Data and Systems Improvement (ODSI) at the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) agency. ODSI’s mission is to ensure effective coordination, communication and consistency around data reporting and how it’s used in understanding and improving performance and outcomes. DDS supports that mission by providing data and SQL based / Tableau based reports that empower DFPS leadership and stakeholders to the best decisions backed by relevant, high-quality information. The person in this position reports to the manager of the DDS Data Reports Engineering Analytics Management team (DREAM).
Essential Job Functions (EJFs):
We’re looking for someone who wants to dedicate their data and reporting skills to serving and protecting the most vulnerable Texans. We want someone who is intellectually curious, wanting to understand not just what is happening but why, and who’s not afraid to think outside the box for innovative and new ways of doing things. At DDS we take the data collected during the critical field work done by DFPS, and work to make that data available and consumable in order to help the agency make better data driven decisions.
The specific job functions:
-- The person in this position will develop a variety of reports and visualizations in an understandable, useable format. They will assist in the development and deployment of the DFPS online interactive data book. They will also use their flexible skill set to complete many other special projects assigned to the unit.
--The person in this position will help troubleshoot advanced technical issues and provide excellent customer support to staff with questions about agency dashboards.
-- The person in this position will extract data from IMPACT, PIERS, and other agency and external databases, and document, design, validate and implement reports for multiple areas of specialization using selected DFPS methodology and reporting tools, such as with Tableau Desktop and SQL queries.
-- The person in this position will review work products of other analysts and will interact routinely DFPS staff and analysts to ensure requirements are met and work products are appropriately validated.
-- The person in this position may train or mentor other analysts in DDS.
--The person in this position will perform their job duties remotely (telework, work from home) and will keep regular work hours in accordance with agency policy.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of relational databases.
Knowledge of and familiarity with personal computer hardware and peripheral equipment.
Knowledge of data processing practices and theory.
Skill in:
Skill in using selected software such as Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep, SQL, PL/SQL, Excel, TOAD and/or Oracle SQL Developer.

Skill in computer systems, coding, management reporting, and data warehouse functions.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

Initial Screening Criteria:
Required - Experience with creating Tableau dashboards - minimum 1 year
Experience in writing SQL code.
Experience in using Excel.
Experience with TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer.
Experience in data extraction and report layout and design.
Preferred - DFPS experience.
Additional Information:
Salary range is between $5,797.66 and $9,508.25 (monthly) depending on the level at which the position is filled and the department budget. The position is filled in accordance with agency policies. The person in this position will perform their job duties remotely (telework, work from home) within the state of Texas and will keep regular work hours in accordance with agency policy.
Work outside of regular hours, including occasional weekends, may be required. Occasional overnight travel to other work locations may be required.
