Job Description:
As a Cybersecurity Analyst III at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), you must have at least three years of relevant experience in information technology (IT) or cybersecurity, with expertise in cloud security.
Your primary responsibility will be to enhance and mature the agency’s cloud security posture. This includes configuring, tuning, and administering security controls across multiple cloud environments such as Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and other approved platforms. You will leverage tools such as Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM), Cloud Workload Protection Platforms (CWPP), and Cloud-Native Application Protection Platforms (CNAPP) to safeguard DFPS data and ensure compliance.
Working under the supervision of the Director of Security Operations, you will integrate automation into detection and response workflows, enhancing the efficiency and reliability of cloud monitoring. This role requires collaboration with partner teams to fine-tune detections, develop dashboards, and establish automated workflows that streamline threat detection, response, and remediation across diverse environments.
DFPS’s mission is to protect children, the elderly, and people with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation by involving clients, families, and communities. As a Cybersecurity Analyst III, you are expected to contribute to this mission by proactively managing vulnerabilities and implementing processes to enhance the agency’s overall security posture.
This position is classified as full-time (40 hours per week) and is 100% telework within Texas. The candidate must maintain personal Wi-Fi and webcam capabilities during work hours. Occasional work outside regular hours and travel to Austin offices may be necessary. The role operates with limited supervision, granting considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance Cloud Security Posture: Configure and monitor security controls across Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and other cloud environments to enforce compliance and reduce risk.
- Leverage CSPM, CWPP, and CNAPP: Implement, administer, and monitor these platforms to ensure comprehensive visibility and protection across DFPS’s cloud environments.
- Threat Detection and Response: Investigate cloud alerts and findings, conduct threat hunting activities, and collaborate with IT and security teams to contain and remediate incidents.
- Automate Security Workflows: Develop scripts and integrations to streamline incident detection, response, and reporting.
- Collaborate with Internal Partners: Work with Information Technology Services (ITS) to ensure effective cloud configurations and timely remediation of identified issues.
- Document and Maintain Processes: Create and update operational documentation for cloud security processes and ensure alignment with DFPS security policies.
- Research and Evaluate Emerging Technologies: Stay current on new cloud security features and enhancements to improve efficiency and resilience.
- Promote Security Awareness: Advocate for secure practices in cloud environments and share lessons learned with DFPS teams.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:
- Industry-recognized certification related to cybersecurity (e.g., SANS, ISACA, ISC², CompTIA) is preferred but not required. The ability to complete certification within one year of hire is required.
- Cloud security certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst, Azure Security Engineer Associate, CCSK, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, Salesforce Security, or ServiceNow Security certifications) are highly desirable.
- Additional certifications demonstrating expertise in cloud security will be considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of cloud security monitoring and administration, particularly in Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and other enterprise cloud platforms.
- Experience with CSPM, CWPP, and CNAPP platforms to monitor environments, enforce best practices, and remediate security misconfigurations.
- Experience integrating cloud security data into SIEM platforms for enhanced detection, reporting, and response.
- Skilled in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) to automate detection, investigation, and remediation workflows.
- Familiarity with NIST, CIS, and related frameworks to align cloud security practices with compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and their impact on cloud security.
- Ability to create reports and dashboards that summarize threats, incidents, and trends for both technical and executive audiences.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams and improve incident response processes.
Initial Screening Criteria:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university focusing on cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience administering and maintaining cloud platforms, with a focus on securing SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS environments.
- Proven experience integrating cloud security tools (such as CSPM, CWPP, or CNAPP) with enterprise platforms to enhance visibility, streamline detection, and automate remediation workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to configure and optimize cloud environments (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, Salesforce, ServiceNow, etc.) to improve monitoring accuracy, enforce compliance, and reduce risk.
