Brief Job Description:

 

The position manages the Tarrant County Student and Volunteer Efforts (S.A.V.E) program is a Tarrant County funded Child Abuse Prevention program. This position supervises student interns from various local universities who are completing internships with the S.A.V.E. program. The position manages the Tarrant County Crisis Intervention Group Program which includes the Sexual Abuse Groups, Parenting Classes, Anger Management and other groups/classes. The position interacts routinely with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services staff, the Tarrant County Child Welfare Board, Tarrant County Community Partners, various university internship administrative staff, clients, professional organizations, and with other agencies that partner with S.A.V.E.  

 

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

 

I. Intern Management

A. Recruit student interns

1. Attends field day at Universities

2. Attends field instructor training and certification at each University

3. Networks with other related fields to recruit students with different backgrounds

4. Maintains positive working relationship with university staff

B. Provide orientation for student interns each semester

1. Information of TDFPS – agency structure, policies, procedures, laws, etc.

2. Background & mission of SAVE

3. Interviewing Skills

4. Obtaining thorough assessments

5. Developing case plans

6. Locating and contacting community service agencies

7. Home visit safety

8. Casework documentation

9. Confidentiality and professional boundaries

10. How to behave in professional culture

11. How to document travel and time and leave

12. Information on assessing risk and detecting child abuse/neglect

C. Provide ongoing training for student interns

1. Role-playing

2. Provide speakers to discuss services offered/ issues relating to abuse/neglect

3. Maintain up to date information on community services offered

4. Model how to interview clients, assess needs, and develop case plans

5. Observe interns in the field to provide feedback

6. Weekly conferences to discuss each assigned case and steps to take

7. Monitor skill development related to risk and safety assessment, knowledge of community resources, interviewing skills, and case planning and management

D. Intern evaluation

1. Directly manage up to 2-5 interns per semester depending on volume of students

2. Provide verbal and written feedback each week to assigned students

3. Be available to interns for questions and support

4. Utilize corrective action plan if necessary including possible removal from program

5. Provide formal written mid-term evaluation each semester

6. Meet with university liaison and/or professor 1-2 times per semester to discuss student’s performance

7. Provide formal written final evaluation per student each semester

 

II. Client Management

The S.A.V.E Supervisor will supervise 2-5 student interns each semester depending on the volume of students. During semesters of very low volume, the S.A.V.E. Supervisor might not supervise any student interns.

A. Maintain client’s right to receive best service

1. Monitor intern’s assessment and progress with client

2. Provide client services when interns are out of office

3. Address any client complaints of intern and/or services offered

B. Monitor client to ensure abuse/ neglect is not occurring

1. Schedule weekly conferences to assess client environment

2. Make home visits to assess clients with risk in home

3. Teach intern and/or client basic knowledge and skills of parenting, problem solving, etc.

 

III. Community Involvement

A. Network with community agencies and schools by providing community presentations and attending community trainings

B. Maintain Holiday Programs by developing and maintaining relationships with local agencies, businesses, and churches

C. Acquires donations, with assistance of Tarrant County Board

D. Participate in Child Abuse Prevention Month by attending the Prevent Child Abuse of Texas annual conference and providing information about child abuse to school staff

E. Provide consultation, training, leadership, public awareness and education to CPS staff, school, universities, other helping agencies, and private and corporate sponsors.

 

IV. Administration Duties

A. Record of Clients Served

1. Keep accurate records of every case SAVE serves using Excel Worksheet, including number of children served, who makes the referrals, etc.

2. Maintain ACCESS database of clients served

3. Read cases for closure to ensure all needs were met

4. Gather findings for annual reports

B. Attend Community Partners of Tarrant County, Inc. board meeting quarterly and present board report

C. Personnel Issues

1. Interview and process student interns for internship with the program

2. Process each intern to be a registered volunteer

 

D. Travel reimbursement

1. Train students on how to accurately report travel incurred

2. Supervisor review travel forms and submit to Rebecca Wittmis for processing

E. Monthly Volunteer Reports

1. Maintain volunteer hours for all assigned students

F. Maintain SAVE Resource Room by ensuring appropriate supplies are available each semester and ensure the room is kept clean and organized

G. Maintain travel and leave for Unit N2 staff

H. Complete annual employee reviews for Unit N2 staff

I. Provide monthly employee conferences for Unit N2 staff

 

V. Fund Raising

A. Maintain SAVE budget utilizing Excel Worksheet and Quicken Files provided by CPS Board Liaison, Stacey Jourdain

B. Manage cost of resources in Resource Room

C. Purchase and stock items for Resource Room

D. Purchase gift cards and monitor usage utilizing Excel Worksheet

E. Apply for monetary donations through grant writing; liaise with Tarrant County Board through Stacey Jourdain to accomplish this task

 

VI. Annual Projects

A. Organize events for Child Abuse Prevention Month

B. Organize donations for Christmas and Thanksgiving and Easter if available donors

C. Organize school supply donations

 

VII. Employee and Intern Training/Development

A. Conduct monthly unit meetings and staff appreciation for Unit N2 staff

B. Provide extra trainings on topics such as Shaken Baby, Family Preservation, Domestic Violence, Disproportionality, etc. during monthly S.A.V.E. meetings.

C. Develop monthly S.A.V.E. Newsletter to provide interns a monthly calendar/schedule of events and provide any necessary reminders and/or updates

 

VIII. CPS SUPERVISOR

A. Direct Supervisor to S.A.V.E. Program Coordinator

B. Direct Supervisor to Tarrant County Group Coordinator

C. Directly supervise 2-5 student interns

D. Performs as Acting Supervisor within program as needed

E. Attends all supervisory and program meetings

F. Attends Tarrant County Board Meetings and provides activity reports on program (Tarrant County Crisis Intervention & SAVE program)

G. Participates in all required CPS trainings, including FBSS trainings

H. Perform other responsibilities assigned by Supervisor

I Ensure that all SAVE computers are maintain

 

Knowledge Skills Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. A knowledge of social work philosophy/practice with an emphasis on family preservation. Skills in working as a team to encourage the successful interface of prevention and protection programs. Experience in managing budgets to include: spending management, supporting community partners in efforts to secure grants, tracking for reports and composing reports. Experience in making presentations to the public and in making accountability reports to funding entities. Confidence and skill in responding to questions from and making presentations to interested community members. A knowledge of child abuse prevention, a commitment to the value of prevention and an ability to communicate with passion.

 

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

 

• The Applicant must possess LMSW or LCSW.

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

• Child Protective Services Supervisor I: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus eighteen months of full-time experience in Child Protective Services* or child placement services** in a public social services agency OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Family and Protective Services.

OR previously employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Family and Protective Services.

 

• Child Protective Services Supervisor II: Completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and completion of the Child Protective Services Supervisor Certification OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II in Family and Protective Services OR Currently employed in a Family and Protective Services management position in the Child Protective Services program at a level above Child Protective Services Supervisor AND prior experience as Child Protective Services Supervisor in Family and Protective Services OR previously employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II.

 

*Child Protective Services is professional social work where primary duties are providing social casework services to abused, neglected, or exploited children and their families; or in recruiting, studying, and certifying foster and adoptive homes.

 

**A Child placement service is the decision-making process around placing and monitoring children in licensed 24-hour childcare facilities and in adoptive placement in compliance with state and federal regulations. 

 

Additional Information: 

 

This position may be filled as a CPS Supervisor I or II. Factors such as education and experience may be considered when establishing the starting salary.
